The planned film 'The Empire of Things' was to be made
from still photographs in the manner
of Chris Marker's 'La Jetee'. It was to encompass a sprawling body of work
I had made in the early
seventies in London and abroad. A voice-over narrative was partly written
by Craigie
Horsfield and some trail footage shot on a rostrum camera by Mike Thomlinson.
Lack of funds and
opportunity consigned the project to remain as much a broken fragment, as
the things depicted.
